The success and downfalls of past Superbowl halftime shows

Everyone looks forward to the Superbowl whether that is the overall game, the commercials, or the halftime show. Over the past 5 years the Superbowl halftime shows have been very diverse with a lot of spunk and differences but what they all have in common is that they were not up to par.

Now I am not saying that these shows and performances were bad because they all had their good moments, but I do think they could have been more entertaining than some of the memes made about them. Many people had a problem with last year’s show being too inappropriate for some of the eyes that might have been watching the super bowl but overall I think that J. Lo and Shakira did put on a pretty good show along with Lady Gaga’s performance in 2017.

The downfall though of many of the shows recently is that, in my opinion, they didn’t keep my attention span very well. 2021 performance is to be done by The Weekend as many people know. The Weekend though is planning on taking a different route with his show. Usually, the performances are done with a guest, like Maroon 5 last year was with Travis Scott and Big Boi but The Weekend says that he will not be having any special guests.

I think The Weekend will be able to pull off a pretty good performance, but it will be a lot more work without a guest. It may be harder without a guest performer to be able to capture people that may not know him or his music very well but hopefully, his show will be good enough to keep everyone’s eyes on the TV this year. With having to make sure that precautions are taken to keep everyone safe because of Covid, I am wondering how the stage will be set up and if they will be able to have fans around the stage like they normally do.
