On Friday, August 28th KSHSAA voted to allow some high school sports programs to move their fall sports to the spring.

Due to COVID-19, this year fall sports look a little bit different than usual. So far KSHSAA has approved an alternate fall season for Kansas high schools. It allows schools who are unable to complete a traditional fall season like football or volleyball to start those sports in March on a new schedule.

COVID-19 has many schools scrambling for options to provide high school athletes a season as close to normal as possible. Currently, no schools have chosen to but, USD 501 and Silver Lake have delayed their seasons by two weeks due to the COVID outbreaks. Many games for football in other school districts have been rescheduled due to COVID and the outbreaks in their area.

The Seaman High football program was scheduled to play against Highland Park on Friday, September 1st, due to the 501 delay; Seaman officials worked with Washburn Rural in order to get both teams on the field. Seaman won the game 48 – 8.

The district has published information on the district website outlining what fans should be doing and what is expected when fans show up to a game. There is a limited number of students who are allowed to be there; students can put in a request for a voucher so that they are able to attend the games. When fans get to the game, there are temperature checks at the entrance gates. Parents and students are required to wear masks at all times in the stadium.

Students are also asked to sit in certain spots that are distanced to a certain length between each other. Hand washing and hand sanitizer will be available in designated areas if fans need to use them. Students and parents are advised to stay home if they are feeling ill to protect others there at the game.
