Varsity starters celebrate a kill at their home tournament in a match against Lansing. The Lady Vikes ended the tournament in second place.

This past weekend, Seaman High School volleyball team hosted their annual volleyball tournament. In attendance at this tournament was Lansing, Free State, Hayden, Manhattan, Silver Lake, and Highland Park.

The tournament brought the Vikings great competition coming strongly from the Lansing team. The Lansing team was stacked with amazing players, but the Vikings gave the games their everything and finished the tournament in second place with their only loss to Lansing.

“The game taught us a lot about how to play together as a team, but I thought we played very consistently all day and we fought really hard against one of the best teams in the league, Lansing, and we took them to three so I think that is something to be proud of,” junior Sydney Mentzer said.

An injury to senior setter and right side, Konlynn Druse, towards the beginning of the season became the first roadblock in the volleyball season. Druse is a senior and four year volleyball team player. Druse has an injury to her knee but is hoping to make it back in time for her track season.

Despite the setback Seaman experienced they were still able to come out in second place of the home tournament. Coaches and players are proud of the tournament and are excited to see what the future holds and hope they can grow from every experience.

The next volleyball game will be on October 8th against Junction City and Topeka High at Topeka High. The game starts at 5:00 pm and the Seaman spiker would love to see an amazing turnout.
