Hot and muggy this afternoon

Topeka’s total precipitation from January through August is the highest ever recorded. 40.89″ of rain (and the liquid equivalent of snow) has fallen this year. Fortunately, a break from the excessive moisture is in store this week.

The combination of hot temperatures and muggy conditions will result in heat indices near 100° this afternoon. Relief is on the way for tomorrow. In the wake of a cold front, highs are expected to reach only the low 80s.

Heat and humidity return to end the week, but it should be more tolerable than today. Current indications point toward a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms Saturday night into Sunday, but high uncertainty exists. Stay tuned for updates as the weekend approaches.

Have a great week!
