After years of waiting, Top City Topeka is finally getting its Expocentre renovation. The renovation should be completed by July of 2021. The renovation will cost $48.5 million dollars and is led by HTK Architecture. Some upgrades include seating, sound, and a new enclosed arena.

HTK Architecture originally stated that the latest the renovation would be completed would be July of 2021 . However, they stated that an accelerated schedule could have it done by February of 2020 and be under budget.

The original cost of the Expocentre renovation is $45 million dollars plus an extra $3 million dollars from the Shawnee County Parks and Recreation. The $45 million dollars is coming from a half cent sales tax increase that Topekans voted for back in 2014.

Some of the major changes include the knew equine arena, a new sound system, removing the outdoor stairs in front, and replacing the 7,800-8,000 old seats and with wider seats making the new capacity 7,300 occupants.
