Snapchat has become very popular amongst today’s youth, and it has a variety of uses, some more appropriate than others. The trending app also has a great deal of other nifty features such as the geofilter, one of Snapchat’s many filter options.
A geofilter is a geographic filter which will tell viewers locations of snapchats sent.
The Topeka and Seaman geofilters that are currently available on Snapchat were both designed by SHS student, senior Braxton Huff .
“I hated the design of the Topeka geofilter that was only able to be used in a couple mile radius from the capitol building, so I decided to make the Topeka geofilter. After receiving an email that informed me the Topeka geofilter was to go live, I sat down and designed one for the high school which also succeeded,” said Huff.
Geofilters have become a growing trend among teens and young adults over the course of the past several years.
“Seeing as how a close friend of mine (Braxton Huff) is the artist behind one of the Topeka geofilters and the Seaman Geofilter I think they’re pretty darn good. They are all around well designed, and help me to look great on my Snapchat stories,” said SHS student, senior Bryce Teaford.
Prior to submitting a geofilter, one must dedicate a signifcant amount of time and effort in order to meet all of the strict guidelines
“Creating a geofilter entails thinking about what you want your design to look like and how it will be different, stand out or appeal to the users of the geofilter. It is some what time-consuming, but it is also key to creating an appealing geofilter,” said Huff .
After designing a geofilter that meets all of Snapchat’s many guidelines, one is then ready to submit it. Geofilters are submitted primarily by those with a back-ground in graphic design, but the option to do so is available for anyone.
“The submission process entails making sure that your geofilter follows the list of strict guidelines provided by Snapchat’s geofilter team,” said SHS senior Braxton Huff.
In addition to the Seaman and Topeka geofilters, Braxton has also designed a series of other geofilters.
“I have designed a total of 14 geofilters, most can all be found on my website www.braxtonhuff.com/geofilters.”
