Former Seaman wrestler Ray Smith returned to Seaman High School to visit from his home in California. Smith was the first individual state champion in school’s history.
Ray was an excellent student, homecoming king, football captain, and the student council president.
Ray was originally on the basketball team when Coach Bierman asked him to join the new wrestling team that he was starting.
After wrestling for three years, Ray won State in Colby, Kansas. In attendance was his dad that was rarely able to come to his events.
Yesterday, he was accompanied on his visit by three of his sisters and their families.
Coach Patrick Kelly said, “I really think it meant a lot to him, he was touched by the reception he got.”
